Fish dish - sauce made with green onion, lemon (both zest and juice) and capers) along wish some vegetable dishes. Very light yet filling.

Korean Theme Continued
After eating meat dish last night, it was a time for vegetables. Chupchi, not sure the spelling, made only from vegetables.

BBQ Dinner
I have two weeks in NYC this time so more home cooking to do. Our favorite Korean grocery opened near by, not from the heights though, so majority of ingredient was from that store, except meat which we bought at a Japanese one. I used Korean BBQ sauce as base but added my touches. So yummy and no left over this tome.
Italian Dinner in Bronx
After having a haircut in east village, we went to our go-to Italian restaurant in Bronx. A different section of Bronx you would typically imagine. Wild boar, or pork, ragu... Hmmm yummy.

Working from Home
I am here in the heights this week but still living or at least working in the European time. The sun is not out yet, but it is very quiet time to work. I have some visitors (birds) at my window during this time of year.

Home Cooking Continued
We had lunch out but we cooked dinner home. Chicken with pickled spicy paper sauce. It has been on our table before so no need to check the receipt.

The Chocolate Room
After walking around the areas, it was the time for some sweets. This place is famous for their chocolate cake, but we had their daily special instead. Actually a slice of cake came with us for tomorrow...
Flea Market
It was a perfect Saturday. We went to a flea market in Clinton hill area. We did not have this unfortunately, but it looked fantastic.
Breakfast at 4 AM
Since I started this extensive trips to Amsterdam, my body clock has never been adjusted for NY time.
This is me preparing breakfast. A fee things I need to mention. This yellow coffee filter is a great find at the flea market in Cologne. And the matzos on the plate. It is a special bread Jewish eats over passover, which was a few weeks ago. Someone, you know who, gives a box or two every year and I kind of like it. Today I ate it. with home made ANKO, or sweet red bean paste and of course butter.
Home Cooking
Finally I am back in the height. It was a long three week trip. Trees are all green and it is one of the best times to be. I was eager to cook something and we ended up with swordfish. Simple sauce made it very refreshing. Love to be in NYC.

I have to post this
Weekend Trip to Belgium
This time I stretched my trip to Gent - 45 minutes drive from Brussels, where you can see a lot of historical architectures. It is surrounded by rivers (I think it is not canal like Amsterdam/Haarlem).
Of course there was French influence all over and you can find great pastries in the town. You can see it is different from the one in Germany or the Netherlands. It looks like from Paris, if I don't tell you, don't you think?
There was one local cuisine I researched for. This is pretty similar to Japanese cream stew but more lighter version in terms of dentistry. It was a big bowl and sufficient for lunch.
At ANOTHER bakery I bought this waffle but a bit different from the one in Haarlem. It has vanilla butter cream in between, vs. caramel and it was actually really good. I couldn't wait till going back to the hotel so I ate some of it outside, even it was pretty cold.
I don't drive a car in the U.S. but I need to do here in Europe. I was told one time if I own a car, it would be Mini. This time I have a Mini (while I usually have a BMW, ha ha). I like a traditional Mini over this but it is still unique design. It stands out especially in front of the old buildings.
Before heading back to Haarlemt on Sunday, I had another round of pastry hopping. This is even more French looking place and I bought TWO I had as "lunch".
While waiting for the rain to stop, I found this beautiful flower shop. I have favorite one in Brooklyn Heights, but this is actually prettier than that. Very dramatic building/space and good for the colorful flowers to pop.
It was a very nice weekend trip and I am sure I will do that again when I have a weekend to kill...

Cologne Two
I should have posted this earlier. This is the most famous sight in Cologne, the dorm. I think this could be taller than the one in Barcelona. It is huge and located just in front of the main station.

Tea Break
This is ANOTHER place where I had sweets. Nice atmosphere with beautiful servers.
Cologne View
I had a nice weather Sunday, so walked around the city like crazy. The view from the bridge. Do you see the church at the back?
Snack Three
Found this bakery, which seems very traditional. Do you see one piece missing? It in my tummy now.

Snack Two
Did I tell you that I lived here before? In 2000 when I was doing an intern after the summer school. This reminds me that summer. Light but creamy.
Snack One
It looks big but it is actually big. Very similar to the ones in Vienna. It was GOOD.
Another Home Away Home
I did not know till Friday if I could take a three days weekend and it became reality. This time I drove over 250 km (just under 200 miles) to Cologne in Germany. Very nice hotel again and it is cheaper than the one I usually stay in Haarlem. I am totally spoiled with these nice hotels at least during weekends. Ready for German food.

Tsukushi
I don't know what it is called in English but this is something reminding me my hometown and spring. I don't know I see this in NY, but I found it in Amsterdam.

Another Trip to AMS
I know I just came back last Friday but its time to go to AMS again... Waiting for the KLM flight. 6 hours later I will be in Amsterdam.

Mexican Brunch
As part of walk around the neighborhood Sunday, we had brunch at a Mexican restaurant with a great city view. I brought my friends and family members when they visited me, some of you guys know which one I am at.
Here is the Spring
This has been a warm March, and here is the proof. I think it is a few weeks earlier the usual. I like this kind over one layer ones.
Lunch in the Heights
Back in the heights for the weekend. We needed a light meal for lunch so we went to an Egyptian cafe near by. We love their bloomed breads just out of the oven.
